Game developers have heaped praise on the iPhone hardware upgrade, delighted by its extra speed, memory, OpenGL ES 2.0 functionality and even its digital compass. So it's not at all unexpected that enhanced versions of App Store products are appearing, but French console developer Mad Monkey Studio has announced that it's entry into the Apple handheld market will be exclusive to the 3GS.
"Thanks to Apples iPhone 3GS incredible 3D performance, Mad Monkey Studio ... will develop games exclusively on the 3GS as it can now be considered the fastest mobile console available," the official announcement reads.
Mad Monkey recently put out a benchmark video demonstrating the processing differences between the two iPhone models, and is apparently already working on "a new game with a cutting edge 3D look never seen on the iPhone".
As fascinating as it'll be to see what a 3GS-specific game will be capable of, it does raise issues within the iPhone community. Hardware fragmentation is something Apple has staunchly attempted to avoid, and it's currently unclear whether or not a game that won't work on the iPhone 3G would even make it through the App Store submissions process.
However, there aren't many 3GS users out there who wouldn't leap on the chance to push their device to its gaming limits, and specific software could prompt others to upgrade - something Apple most certainly is keen to encourage.
