With mobile studios dominating the list of nominees for UK trade association TIGA's first ever awards, we decided to put the spotlight on some of the developers in the running.
Neon Play is up for two awards in all, with Traffic Panic London in the running for best action/adventure release and best arcade game. CEO Oli Christie is also up for the leadership award.
We caught up with Christie to find out how the developer is taking the nominations.
Pocket Gamer: How do you feel about being named as a finalist at the TIGA Awards?
Oli Christie: The whole studio is chuffed to bits to be nominated twice for Traffic Panic London.
With nearly 5 million downloads in three months, we've been astounded by the success of the game and it's great to be recognised by your peers.
And for me to be personally shortlisted in the 'leadership' category is a great honour, alongside some far better qualified and highly respected people in our industry.
Hopefully it's a testament to the high quality games the whole Neon Play team has launched in the last 2-3 years.
What would receiving a TIGA Award mean for your studio?
It would mean a great deal.
We've been lucky enough to win a fair amount of business awards in the last year and we've been nominated in games awards in the past, but we've never won one. So it would be a great coup to scoop one.
Are you a TIGA member?
Yes we are as it's a no-brainer.
There are numerous benefits and cost savings and it's an organisation that has done an incredible amount for the UK games industry, especially recently campaigning for the tax breaks.
What do you think are your chances of winning?
If you were a betting man, you would say very slim as the competition is of such high quality, so we certainly won't be expecting any silverware. But you've got to be in it to win it!
Thanks to Oli for his time.
