GREE announces closure of OpenFeint

Over a year and a half after it acquired the social platform, GREE is to close down OpenFeint's serves on 14 December.

The news, now published on the OpenFeint website, was broken to developers via email, with GREE informing studios that the decision has been taken to enable the company to "provide innovative tools to developers."

As you might expect, the email in question invites OpenFeint developers to migrate their titles to GREE's own social gaming platform for iOS and Android.

"GREE Platform is easy and a basic integration can take less than a week of engineering time," details the email.

"In addition, migrating your game to GREE Platform allows you to keep your user data and player scores. Please note that migrating to GREE Platform will require you to remove the OpenFeint SDK and re-submit your game to the appropriate platform."

GREE has also revealed that developers who fail to remove the OpenFeint SDK by the time of the platform's closure will be in violation of the developer agreement.

"We're focused on helping you solve your biggest challenges and providing you with the most robust social toolset," closes the email.

"That's why we're directing all our efforts toward improving and developing GREE Platform."
