Ouya, the company behind the Android unconsole of the same name, has pledged $1 million to match Kickstarter funds raised by developers for Ouya-based games.
The fund, dubbed 'Free the Games', is meant to provide incentives for developers looking to release games for the new unconsole between August 9 2013 and August 10 2014.
If an Ouya game's Kickstarter is successful, Ouya will use the Free the Games fund to match the crowd-funded capital raised, between $50,000 and $250,000.
Let freedom ring
Many popular Ouya titles like were initially funded through Kickstarter campaigns - just like Ouya itself.
Indeed, in a statement explaining the movement, Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman noted the company is looking to pay homage to its beginnings.
"There are two reasons why Ouya is on retail store shelves today," offered Uhrman.
"We had an innovative idea to build an affordable and open game console for the television, and we found fans who supported our idea and provided the funds to make it happen
now we are in the enviable position of being able to give back and secure the best, exclusive games for Ouya."
Uhrman also went on record earlier this year to state that the focus of Ouya should be on its library of games and not its cheap ($99) price tag.
