Fishlabs tops PG.biz Quality Index for Q3 2008
We made the rules, so we better stick to 'em. Fishlabs has topped our PG.biz Quality Index for the third quarter of 2008, with a stonking average review score of 9.22 out of 10 on the websites covered by our research.

But there's some clarification required. When compiling the Quality Index, we've always excluded publishers with less than five reviews across the sites. Fishlabs has five this time, four of which are for the critically-lauded Rally Master Pro.

Hats off to them for that title then, although it has skewed the results somewhat. So behind Fishlabs, fierce rivals Gameloft and EA Mobile can take pride in their respective average ratings of 7.87 and 7.85 respectively. The gap has narrowed between the two since Q2's Quality Index, too.

We've tweaked the sites covered for Q3. We've removed IGN Wireless, which has shifted its focus to iPhone reviews during the quarter, and we've added two European sites: JeuxPo and MobileXP. They join Pocket Gamer, Mobile Game FAQs, HandyPlayer and AirGamer.

Here's the full list, with analysis below:

The newly-renamed Connect2Media (formerly Hands-On Mobile) did well in Q3, recording a rise of 1.67 percentage points in its average score, thanks partly to Guitar Hero III Mobile, but also a lack of the movie games that sunk its score in Q2.

Digital Chocolate, HandyGames, I-play and Disney Mobile all recorded modest rises in Q3, while AMA improved by a bigger 1.26 percentage points.

However, it's Glu Mobile which had the worst Q3 in terms of critical acclaim, with an average review score that slumped by 0.66 percentage points. Branded games Beijing 2008 and The Dark Knight pulled its rating down.

RealArcade, Player X and Capcom all saw their ratings fall, although in RealArcade's case, this was more due to Q2 including excellent scores for Playman Summer Games 3, rather than Q3 being particularly poor.

The chart includes all publishers with more than five games reviewed during the quarter across the six websites.
