Samsung's Galaxy S II tops 3 million in first 55 days

Samsung's Galaxy S II tops 3 million in first 55 days

Having passed the 1 million mark in South Korea in mid-June, Samsung has announced that the Galaxy S II's global sales tally now stands in excess of 3 million.

The firm says the handset, which initially went on sale in early May, is benefiting from its position as the leading Android device for many operators around the world.

Milestones and momentum

"Announced at Mobile World Congress 2011, the Galaxy S II represents our most advanced smartphone to date and demonstrates Samsung's commitment to deliver premium, market-defining devices," said president and head of Samsung's mobile communications business, JK Shin.

"This milestone reflects the continued strong support from our carrier partners around the world who have chosen the Galaxy S II as their flagship Android device."

Galaxy S II is fast chasing down the 10 million base amassed by its predecessor, with the handset's daily sales average coming in at over 54,500 units. Given the staggered nature of its roll-out, however, its true pace is unknown.

Sales will likely receive another major push when it launches in the US in mid-July.
