Rovio has acquired Finnish animation studio Kombo for an undisclosed sum of cash and stock, it has been revealed.
The purchase will see Kombo, which has previously worked with the Angry Birds studio, turn its attention exclusively to Rovio properties.
Animated move
"We have had a long and fruitful relationship with Kombo in the past," said Rovio CEO Mikael Hed of the deal.
"This acquisition is an important step in the execution of our media strategy. The attitude, creativity and quality of Kombo's work is simply fantastic, and we look forward to delighting our fans with more Kombo animations."
Rovio says the move is a step along the way to establishing itself as a "powerhouse in animated entertainment", with Kombo specialising in combining traditional handcrafts with the latest technology.
It's also unlikely to be the studio's last acquisition.
Rovio claims it willl "continue to expand in all areas of entertainment business", citing animation and app development as the areas it's looking to specialise in.
