Sony Ericsson adds PS3 compatibility to new handset

Aino touchscreen phone talks to the console

Sony Ericsson adds PS3 compatibility to new handset
Although Sony has repeated thwarted attempts to develop a PSP phone, it seems the struggling manufacturing partnership has finally made some headway toward a unified PlayStation brand.

The hot new touchscreen Aino handset will apparently allow for a high level of wireless PC connectivity, but will also add a great deal of interaction between the device and Sony's home console, the PS3.

Using the Remote Play application, users will have access to the PlayStation 3's media content on the Aino device, along with the option to play, record and pause live TV through the PlayTV system in European territories.

"Media Home and Remote Play with PlayStation 3 are key steps in broadening the entertainment experiences users can enjoy on their Sony Ericsson phone and gives a taste of our vision of the future," says Sony Ericsson's market business manager Alexandre Cardon.

There's no word on any game content compatibility as yet, but the Aino is a feature rich device that could signal the beginning of a unified living room under the Sony and PlayStation brands.

Yes. Spanner's his real name. And, yes, he's heard that joke before.
