Online learning service Train2Game and Microsoft have jointly set the Guinness World Record for the largest game jam in a single location.
Hosted by the University of Bedfordshire, the 48 hour event saw 299 Train2Game students split into development teams to create Windows 8 apps.
Microsoft technicians and university tutors were on hand to offer support, and an on-site adjudicator from Guinness presided over the game jam.
Sleepless nights
In advance of the event, organisers expected they'd need to attract 301 participants in order to set a new record.
As it happens, 299 students took part, which was still enough to satisfy the Guinness World Records adjudicator that a record had been set.
"Windows 8 presents a huge opportunity for developers to build great new apps for a variety of form factors," explained Microsoft UK senior director Anand Krishnan.
"We're really pleased that the Train2Game students got to use Windows 8 before release this year, and it was great to see them use their creativity to build some of these incredible games."
Game on
More than 20 games were produced by the student developers and have been submitted for review to the Windows Store.
Team 22 was awarded the 'best game of show' prize for its project, Royal Rush, and won a number of Microsoft prizes that included a VIP trip to UK studio Rare.
"We did it! Congratulations to all the students, we're incredibly proud of them," said Train2Game course director Myra Smallman.
"This has been a wonderful experience and now its over its time for us all go and get some sleep!"
