Microsoft gives Adobe special privileges to build Flash support into Windows 8

Flash updates delivered through Windows Update

Microsoft gives Adobe special privileges to build Flash support into Windows 8
Despite previously insisting that Windows 8 would deliver a plug-in free browsing experience, it would seem that Microsoft has made a special exception for Adobe Flash player.

In a leaked internal memo, Adobe's VP and general manager of interactive development Danny Winkour says that "Microsoft received strong customer feedback that Flash is an important part of the Metro style browsing experience and invited us to consider doing this work with their support."

Fully integrated

"Our work together has to a large degree focused on integrating Flash Player into Metro-style IE10 with special privileges that enable it to run while other plug-ins still cannot," Winkour explained.

But that's not the only special privilege Microsoft is affording Adobe.

"We will deliver future updates to the Flash Player (both security and feature upgrades) through Windows Update in much the same way that Microsoft updates IE itself," said Winkour.
