First for iPhone and iPad, then Android and beyond

YoYo Games opens up as a mobile publisher for Game Maker content
Known for its Game Maker drag-and-drop package, and its accompanying web game portal, YoYo Games is about to enter the world of mobile game publishing.

The UK company has made its debut on the App Store with circular Canabalt-style game Maddening and reverse Doodle Jumper game Skydiver Mach II.

Additional iPad, PSP Minis and Android releases are planned through its new Game Store publishing initiative.

Filling the pipeline

The publishing scheme enables creators who are using the Game Maker package to now sell their games via YoYo Games. The creators keep the all IP rights, with revenues being split 50:50.

YoYo is also looking into the viability of Windows Phone 7, MeeGo and Nintendo 3DS in future, to offer a one-stop mobile publishing shop.

One great advantage for the company has is the back catalog of over 100,000 games already created using the package.

Even if only 0.1 percent of these are thought to be worth releasing, that's enough to keep YoYo very busy throughout 2011, with two games releases per week, not to mention the input of up to 150 new games submitted daily.

Choose and buff

It currently has 18 games scheduled for release, with each being polished up from its original web form to ensure it works well on the different platforms and hardware configurations.

Another advantage is the ready made potential audience of 1.5 million visitors that its free games portal gets every month.
Game Maker is available in a free Lite version, with the full Pro version costing $25. It's been downloaded over two million times.
