Zeemote acquired by Aplix Corporation

Bluetooth mobile game controller lives on

Zeemote acquired by Aplix Corporation
It was announced at the beginning of November that developer of the Bluetooth mobile game controller Zeemote had closed its doors, though investor Michael Fitzgerald of Commonwealth Capital Ventures did did announce plans for the sale of the Zeemote assets.

Japanese consumer electronics company Aplix Corporation has now announced that it has acquired those Zeemote assets in a cash transaction.

A small number of key Zeemote staff have been retained in the buy out, including Jim Adams and Rob Podoloff who will continue with their roles as VP Business Development and CTO respectively, with the Chelmsford, Massachusetts facility continuing as a seperate subsidiary of Aplix.

The presumed purpose behind this acquisition is an expansion of Aplix Corporation's existing mobile technology, namely its Java platform JBlend, which is embedded in over 110 million handsets.

A recent partnership with Japanese games company G-Mode, coupled with the TV-output features of JBlend fits perfectly with the Zeemote Bluetooth controller to allow Aplix to evolve its gaming presence on the mobile platforms.

"Functional control of the mobile device and its applications is a huge opportunity as the sophistication and capability of devices increases exponentially," says Ryu Koriyama, CEO of Aplix.

"With the acquisition of Zeemote we are in a unique position to take a lead in the supply of both content and peripherals which will significantly improve the end-user experience."

Yes. Spanner's his real name. And, yes, he's heard that joke before.
