Stepping up? DeNA's Downie resurfaces at Zynga

The surprising news of the morning was that DeNA West CEO Clive Downie had mysteriously resigned.

The surprising news of the evening was that Downie had mysteriously surfaced - as the new chief operating officer of Zynga.

Yet given Downie had previously worked at EA, the move from one San Francisco-based company to another made sense given that new Zynga CEO - and Downie's ex-EA colleague - Don Mattrick is reshuffling his executives.

Right hand man

"I have known Clive for more than two decades and am pleased to welcome him to the team," commented Mattrick.

"He is a seasoned leader with a deep understanding of consumer, marketing and mobile engagement, international experience operating both in EMEA and Japan, and a rich background in game publishing - all of which are incredibly valuable as Zynga navigates its move to mobile."

"I joined Zynga because I believe it has the ability to unlock disruptive new ideas that span gaming genres, markets and services," added an optimistic Downie.
