Zynga has been forced to apologise and compensate players following a pricing test in NaturalMotion's CSR Racing 2 which saw a new car given a random price for each player.
Kotaku reported that movie tie-in car "Letty's Sting Ray" had been made available for $4.99, $14.99, and $34.99 across various players. A later post on the Zynga support page confirmed that its pricings had been set randomly across all players.
The car is now being made available for $14.99 for everyone, with players who paid the highest price receiving in-game compensation. Those who purchased the car at its $4.99 price point will be able to keep the car.
Random racers
"We apologise for any frustration this test may have caused and want to assure you it was done at random and not based on player history," wrote Zynga on its support page.
"Testing features is an important part of game development but we're sorry this test missed the mark and disrupted your game experience."
Despite complaints about the testing, CSR Racing 2 remains the top grossing racing game on the App Store. Zynga claimed that the CSR Racing series overall generates around 14% of its online game revenue in its Q1 FY17 financials.
