Predicting a rate of growth that will see the mobile ad market in Europe's top territories sail pass $1 billion by 2014, research agency mobileSQUARED has proclaimed InMobi, adsmobi and YOC as the continent's major players.

The results, detailed in a white paper commissioned by second placed adsmobi, point to an EU5 (UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain) split between 11 different ad networks in all.

However, when it comes to the number of ads served across their respective platforms, InMobi is the continent's king.

Three for five

It's an important measure for those named, claims mobileSQUARED chief analyst Nick Lane, namely because those at the top are in a prime position to mop up the market as mobile ad spend increases by 600 percent between now and 2016.

"The European mobile advertising space is now demonstrating the strong growth that has been projected for a number of years," said Lane.

"Companies like adsmobi, that are helping to drive the sector are primed for the good times."

Mobi movement

The paper is naturally slanted towards the exploits of the firm behind its commission, adsmobi, though MD Ramy Yared who set up the company in 2010 after having previously served as MD of Smaato - said his firm isn't satisfied with second place.

"Our first year was very successful and we are proud to see adsmobi as one of the biggest players with Pan-European inventory in the mobile advertising market as off today," he said.

"We expanded our worldwide service with the opening of a new office in London and our growing team is working hard with our agency partners to drive revenues in Europe’s big five markets."

Of the smartphone market as a whole, mobileSQUARED claims penetration will jump 150 percent across the EU5 by 2016.
