App Annie reports game and app downloads pushed 113 billion this year

Totaly mobile app downloads are set to increase by 10 per cent year-on-year for 2018 to 113 billion across the App Store and Google Play.

Going by preliminary data up to December 15th, App Annie predicts that consumer spend will reach new heights and increase 20 per cent year-over-year to hit $76 billion globally.

Also noted in the report is an increase in mobile users' screen-time. US smartphone owners now spend nearly three hours in apps daily, up 10 per cent from 2017.

App Annie has listed the top 10 games and apps of 2018 (below), naming Fate/Grand Order the top game of the year in terms of player spending. Netflix drove the most spend in overall apps.

The report found hyper-casual and battle royale games to be the fastest-growing trends in 2018.

App Annie believes mobile gaming will take over 60 per cent of gaming revenue total in 2019.
