King doubles down on midcore with soft-launched space-based Stellar: Galaxy Commander

Mixes match-3 and turn-based strategy

King doubles down on midcore with soft-launched space-based Stellar: Galaxy Commander

King has doubled down on its commitment to midcore games by soft-launching a second game targeted at the market called Stellar: Galaxy Commander.

The game was first soft-launched on Android and iOS on July 8th 2017. It is currently available in Indonesia and the Netherlands.

Stellar: Galaxy Commander combines match-3 gameplay with strategy elements in real-time PvP battles. It also features loot boxes which contain new units and upgrades, a popular monetisation method in the midcore market.

To the moon

It is the second midcore game to have been soft-launched by King in the last month. The developer soft-launched Legend of Solgard, a match-3/turn-based RPG hybrid, on June 16th 2017.

Whether these games will see full releases is anyone's guess. King canned two soft-launched midcore titles in 2016, Z2's Rise of Tyrants and its own action-RPG Hero.

King is also currently working on prototypes for a midcore shooter based on the Call of Duty franchise. The game is still "some way off a potential launch", according to the studio.
