Apps reviews get published online on an hourly basis. Such is their wealth, however, that few accolades actually stay in the mind for all too long.

A new venture by 148Apps, then, might just offer developers a reward that goes beyond a high rating on Metacritic or the odd award that comes their way once a year.

The App Hall of Fame, which is sponsored by analytics firm Flurry, plans to pick out 12 apps every month, building up a catalogue of high class titles that offer the best service for iPhone users.

There's no quick way in for flavour of the month apps, either, with eligible titles having to have been on sale for at least six months.

Going for gold

"Our goal is to archive the very best mobile apps by honouring only 12 applications per month," the site says in a blog post detailing the project's launch.

"Applications are nominated and voted on monthly by the selection committee with the applications that get the most votes being inducted into the hall of fame."

As an example of the high standard the site is aiming for, the first 12 apps to make it on board include massive hits such as Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Flight Control, Fieldrunners, Homerun Battle 3D and Plants vs. Zombies.

The venture, which will initially focus on iPhone but will add iPad and Android apps in the near future, isn't restricted to games, either, with the official Twitter app and Shazam also making the line up.
