Global trade association, the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF), has announced that the 8th annual Mobile Entertainment Awards better known as the Meffys is now open for entries.

The awards are designed to recognise innovation within the mobile market, with the winners set to be announced on July 7 at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, London.

A mobile market

"The Meffys is the most significant annual competition for mobile content and commerce leaders and new entrants to the industry to highlight their success and be celebrated as the industry's best," said MEF executive director Rimma Perelmuter.

"The new 2011 Meffys for Best Brand on Mobile and Best Mobile Website, together with the 16 established awards categories, demonstrate the growing commitment of brands, retailers and enterprises to mobile as the platform of choice for entertaining, engaging and enriching the lives of the always-connected, mobile savvy consumer."

All entries, which need to be made by April 26, will be judged by a panel of leading journalists, analysts, academics and VCs.

Last year, PopCap won the best mobile game award for Plants vs. Zombies.

The association will also honour an unannounced industry luminary with the Outstanding Contribution Award, which last year went to Dr. Andrew Hsu, inventor of touchscreen technology for mobile handsets.

Ticket time

Firms looking to enter their products or service to the 2011 Meffys are advised to visit the award's official website.

In addition, tickets for the event can also be purchased, with MEF Members charged £150 per ticket, while standard entry for non-members costs £350.

MEF is also offering a special developer rate this year, coming in at £75 per entry.
