AdMob launches in-app ads for Android

AdMob has announced that it's launching its SDK for Android, allowing developers to include its advertising modules in their games and applications.
The move follows plenty of noise in recent months around AdMob's activities on iPhone - something it's clearly keen to translate to Google's mobile OS too. Just before Christmas, the company reported that iPhone now accounted for 6.3 per cent of its ad requests.
"Weve seen with the launch of our iPhone network that these new platforms allow advertisers to achieve their campaign goals with significantly lower friction and cost compared to traditional online ad spend, and were hoping that Android provides the same value for both brand and performance advertisers," says AdMob's blog post announcing the news.
Developers haven't been able to charge for their Android games on Google's Android Market so far, so the ability to at least make a bit of money from ads is likely to appeal.
"Even once paid apps are available, we believe many free apps will still choose to monetize with ads - just like weve seen with iPhone apps," says the blog post.
