Adobe has long talked up the possibility of circumventing Apple's Flash block on iOS. Now it would appear such talk has become reality.

Called Wallaby, Adobe has debuted a new system that converts basic Flash files into HTML5, allowing them to run on iPhone and iPad without hitch.

The new set up is so far being utilised in WebKit-based browsers to run simple elements such as banner ads and animations, but it could be expanded on if its proves successful.

First steps

"There's still room for improvement, but I think we've addressed a very specific use case for banner ads on iOS," Adobe's Tom Barclay told GigaOM, claiming the firm simply wants to make iOS development easier for the community.

The structure behind the system which runs on Adobe AIR is simple enough, allowing developers to drag and drop Flash tiles into their web pages. The system then analyses the file and outputs HTML5 files that give off the same effect.

However, Wallaby currently has trouble working with ActionScript something Barclay claims Adobe is working on and numerous other higher-end Flash features are also something of an issue.

Nevertheless, while Wallaby is currently a browser-only tool, it could be an important move in the wake of the rise of the web app, eventually enabling firms such as Kongregate to make the leap from Android to iOS.
