Adobe's AIR makes debut on Android Market

Strengthening its position on Google's platform, Adobe has launched its AIR for Android runtime on Android Market.
Adobe announced its intentions to bring AIR to the OS in September, with developers now able to push AIR apps albeit those designed for mobile to Android 2.2 (Froyo) devices.
AIR is a technology that enables developers to use HTML, Flash, JavaScript and ActionScript to make standalone web sites that don't require a browser.

Software making use of Adobe's runtime appears particular sparse at the moment TechCrunch reporting that only a few AIR apps are currently available on Android Market.
Nevertheless, AIR's appearance on Android will come as a bonus to developers keen on Flash, allowing them to bring their apps to market without having to tackle any new technology.
Those looking to make use of AIR can get their hands on the SDK via Adobe's beta program.
Users keen to find out what apps they can expect to see in the coming months can also check out Adobe's blog post.
