Android-powered Nook Color now open for app submissions

Having launched its official developers' portal at the end of 2010, Barnes & Noble has confirmed it is now accepting app submissions from developers looking to sell their titles on its Nook Color.
The Android-powered (v2.1) device was pitched as the first e-reader to move into tablet territory when Barnes & Noble unveiled its developer program in December.
At the time, the company claimed it was looking for studios to deliver "engaging content and reading-centric applications for our millions of customers to enjoy".
App approval
Now the doors have finally been flung open, but developers looking to get their apps on the device will have to meet the firm's high standards.
Barnes & Noble is said to be running a fairly extensive app acceptance process that will "follow the companys content acceptance policies as with books to ensure the content is appropriate for the Barnes & Noble customer."
Nevertheless, studios signed up to Nook's developer program will have access to a full range of tools designed to make working on apps specifically aimed at Nook Color as easy as possible.
As well as the standard Android SDK (API Level 7), Barnes & Noble provides an Android SDK add-on (NOOK SDK 1.0).
The firm also claims that, aside from early access to APIs and other development resources, those on board will be able to engage with other Nook Color developers and technical experts via NookDeveloper.com.
