If developers have one major gripe about getting their goods onto the iPhone, it's the stonewall built in front of the App Store approvals process.

And Apple hasn't seemed all that interested in revealing what's going on behind the fruit curtain, though according to AppleInsider a new feature has been added to the approvals process that gives devs an update on their submission.

This update feature still doesn't give too much away; assigning a level to the application at nine different stages through the approval process. These include rather nebulous descriptions such as "in review", " ready for sale" and, of course, "rejected".

While it's not quite the transparency developers would obviously like (concerns that would be mostly alleviated if they could get a definite release date for their products), it's at least a step in the right direction.
