Though Apple tends to keep its big guns under wraps until the last possible moment, the company has decided to reveal just what it and, in turn, the rest of the world will be talking about during WWDC 2011.

As expected, iOS 5 is set to receive its unveiling during the event's keynote, which despite recent ill health will once again be presided over by CEO Steve Jobs.

Making a good Jobs of it

It's not the first time Apple's head has made an appearance during his leave.

Jobs previously, and somewhat surprisingly, lead the firm's iPad 2 press conference back in March.

"At the keynote, Apple will unveil its next generation software - Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple's advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch; and iCloud, Apple's upcoming cloud services offering," the company said in a statement.

Indeed, while the launch of any update to iOS tends to dominate the headlines, its likely iCloud will generate much attention in its own right, coming just weeks after Google showcased its own online music platform, Music Beta.

Jobs will take to the stage on June 6 in San Francisco at 10am PDT/6pm BST.
