Apple has just revealed its earnings for the fourth quarter of 2009, and while it's no surprise that the company is beating the global economic recession hands down, the figures are still impressively high.

The latter end of its 2009 financial year turned in a whopping $9.87 billion, according to MobileGamesBlog, thanks mostly to the sale of a record number of iPhone and iPod touch units.

The iPhone pushed another 7.4 million handsets out into the market, while the iPod touch enjoyed an immense 10.2 million sales. These figures have boosted Apple shares a further 6 per cent to around $200 per share.

It was also announced that a 'mystery product' will increase the company's shipping costs next year, and although Apple refused to reveal any information on what that product is, the smart money is on the much-hyped Apple touchscreen tablet.
