Apple to launch new App Store beta scheme
One of the big complaints from developers since the launch of Apple's App Store is over the lack of a beta testing ecosystem, allowing them to identify and eradicate bugs before releasing their games onto the store.
That's why we're already seeing updates for games just a week after they launched - something that's happening for non-game apps too. Even Facebook admitted that there were "dozens" of bug fixes in v1.1 of its app.
However, help may be at hand. TechCrunch is reporting that Apple plans to launch a new beta program in the next few days, which may allow app developers to specify up to 100 beta testers per application.
“"In order to download a beta app, users will need to submit their iPhone's serial number to the developer, who will then need to flag its eligibility in the store itself. All betas will still be distributed through the App Store - you won't be able to download one on an external site."”If true, it should ensure games are more thoroughly tested before they go on sale.
Another upside (for sister site Pocket Gamer too) is it may make it easier for developers and publishers to give hands-on previews of games to journalists.
