It's been a rough ride for Apple regarding the blocking of the Google Voice application from the App Store, mainly from the media and users keen to plug what's perceived as a glaring omission in the handset's functionality.

The blame has also been directed toward carrier AT&T recently, suspected of wanting to block an application that would essentially compete with its voice call services.

But in a statement put out to both the FCC and the media, AT&T insists it had nothing to do with the decision:

"Let me state unequivocally, AT&T had no role in any decision by Apple to not accept the Google Voice application for inclusion in the Apple App Store," saysJim Cicconi, AT&T senior executive vice president for external and legislative affairs. "AT&T was not asked about the matter by Apple at any time, nor did it offer any view one way or the other."

Apple has backed up its US partner in a statement published on the official website, saying, "Apple is acting alone and has not consulted with AT&T about whether or not to approve the Google Voice application."

The statement goes on to suggest that Google Voice hasn't actually been blocked, but is still within the App Store submissions system.

"Contrary to published reports, Apple has not rejected the Google Voice application, and continues to study it."

The App Store is currently the subject of two FCC investigations, and while all appears above board regarding Apple's submissions policy, all this attention will hopefully prompt the company to finally make its process more transparent.
