The price of Asus' forthcoming Eee Pad Transformer looks competitive, but it's the functionality of the firm's Android-powered Honeycomb tablet that could set it apart from the competition.

Boasting a 10.1-inch LED backlit display, the tablet's selling point is that it can be docked with a keyboard, turning the device into what Asus claims is a fully functioning notebook.

Transforming the market

Eee Pad Transformer has a confirmed release date in the UK of April 6, retailing without the keyboard for £379, but coming in at a bundled price of £429.

The tablet comes equipped with Nvidia's Tegra 2 dual core processor and Asus's Waveface interface facilitating media streaming though MyNet and cloud based storage via MyCloud.

"The Eee Pad Transformer does exactly what it says on the box it transforms," Asus says of the tablet.

"Thanks to a unique docking keyboard, the modernistic device can be used either as an independent tablet when you want a lightweight option to carry around the home or whilst travelling, or with a simple clip-in-place action it transforms into a traditional netbook perfect for longer typing demands or recharging."

Asus also has three other tablets due for release in 2011  one sporting Windows 7, the other two running Android.
