Bandai Namco has officially opened a new studio in Malaysia.

This Kuala Lumpur-based arm of the Japanese developer/publisher was founded in March, but officially begins operations this month.

The new studio is intended to become Bandai Namco's Southeast Asian hub for visual art production. The Malaysia branch will work closely with the Singapore office.

Malaysian drive

The Malaysian games industry is growing, and this new studio is an affirmation of its ambition to become a games hub.

“Having a major industry player such as Bandai Namco setting up a studio in Malaysia speaks volumes of our talent pool, games industry and national economy," commented Hasnul Hadi Samsudin of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation.

"Our games industry is stronger than ever and we are excited to see what lies ahead.

"We hope that Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia will play an active role in developing our local games ecosystem towards our national mission in becoming the leading [Southeast Asian] games development hub.”

Location, location, location

As for Bandai Namco itself, the location of the Malaysia studio will be key in strengthening relationships with partners in neighboring countries.

"We will do our best effort to become the best content developer in Asia by producing top-notch content that caters to this region," said Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia MD Makoto Ishii.

"We would like to thank our partners for their continuous support in establishing the studio and we look forward to a wonderful future with much success."
