Mobile content and commerce trade organisation MEF has open the floodgates fto entries for 2012's Meffys Awards, though it appears games have been left high and dry this year.

The annual award for Best Games won by Dead Space on iOS in 2011  has been left out the categories, although the event has been bolstered by the appearance of an award for Best Social & Entertainment app.

Judged by an independent panel of journalists, academic, analysts, and VCs, MEF describes the Meffys as a measure of success and a reward for innovation.

"Now in their 9th year, the Meffys enjoy an unrivalled heritage as the global awards for mobile content and commerce," explained MEF's executive director, Rimma Perelmuter.

"MEF reviews the categories on an annual basis to reflect the industry's evolution and this year, we are recognising the profound impact of mobile on key verticals and consumers around the world."

A total of 13 awards are up for grabs, with firms invited to submit entries until the deadline of 9 June.

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner on 12 September at the Park Lane Hotel in Mayfair, London.
