It's perhaps not the most exciting mobile app store, at least in terms of games, but RIM is steadily building out the quantity and quality of apps available for BlackBerry users.

It's finally breached the 10,000 mark, rising from just over 6,000 in March 2010, or 85 percent over the seven month period.

Surprisingly it also has one of the highest price averages, in part thanks to its historic minimum price of $2.99 per app, since dropped to 99c.

In comparison, Apple's App Store is now over 250,000 while over 100,000 have been submitted to the Android Market.

Of course, when it comes to games, the majority of BlackBerry titles are Java rather than native code, but with newer devices supporting OpenGL ES 1.0, there's the potential for more advanced releases.

Indeed, just in terms of the number of releases, it's significant that big publishers such as EA Mobile and Gameloft have released more BlackBerry games than for any other smartphone.
