Brightcove unveils cloud-based mobile app platform App Cloud for iOS and Android

Expanding from its base in app distribution, Brightcove has pulled the covers off its new cloud-based app platform, designed to aid the development of HTML5-equipped native apps for iOS and Android.
The platform, dubbed App Cloud, aims to plug apps into "intelligent cloud services" designed to both optimise their performance and enable dynamic updates.
The future's bright
"The App Cloud beta program has been very well received over the past few months, and we have been impressed by the quality, breadth and creativity of the apps developed by our beta users," said VP of technology Ashley Streb.
"Now, any organisation can take advantage of App Cloud to easily build, deliver, and manage dynamic, custom content apps across multiple devices for a superior end user experience."
Building in the sky
The App Cloud SDK, which recently underwent a 1,200 user-strong round of beta testing, is also compatible with both CSS3 and JavaScript, allowing developers to deploy apps that access native features camera, alerts, accelerometer and location via APIs with little fuss.
Specifically, Brightcove is pitching the apps that result as equipped for modern devices, with updates and image transcoding handled via the cloud to optimise performance.
App Cloud is available both as a free release which allows a single user to develop and test an unlimited number of apps and a $15,000 subscription-based suite for enterprise, the latter facilitating whole teams to collaboratively develop, deploy and operate the apps in question.
More details on App Cloud can be found on Brightcove's website.
