The Consumer Electronics Show taking place in Las Vegas from 9 - 13 January will be the stage on which Samsung will unveil its Android-based answer to Apple's AirPlay.

Dubbed SwipeIt, the feature enables big screen viewing of small screen content - currently limited to photos and videos, not games.

Samsung actually started pushing out SwipeIt to compatible TVs on 1 January, with the supporting Android app launched on 3 January, but with developer Movl, not Samsung mentioned in the Android Market entry.

Android only

Aside from the ability to stream games, one of the biggest differences between SwipeIt and AirPlay is that Apple currently requires a separate Apple TV device to be plugged into your TV in order for your iOS device to connect, whereas the Samsung service will work over any Android device and a Samsung Smart TV.

Though Apple device integration will not be supported in the US, there are rumours that an iOS app maybe made available in Korea.

Whether Apple would approve such a competitive app remains to be seen, however.
