Chinese telecoms company Huawei is making its first foray into the global smartphone market, launching an Android powered handset in the west before the end of 2010.

Dubbed Ideos, the entry level device will run Android 2.2 and will retail somewhere in the range of $100 to $200 according to the New York Times.

It's set to a feature a 2.8 inch touchscreen, 3.2 mega-pixel camera and 512mb of onboard memory, all powered by a 528 MHz processor.

Worldwide wonder

Ideos marks the first time Huawei already one of the largest telecommunications companies in China has attempted to crack markets outside of its home territory.

The firm has already confirmed that launches are planned in North America, Europe, Latin America and parts of Asia in the coming months.

It also signifies a growing relationship with Google, with Android devices expected to experience massive growth in the nascent Chinese smartphone market over the coming years.
