Developers slash game prices for iPad 2 launch

Keenly awaiting what's likely to be the swelling of iPad's userbase when iPad 2 makes its US debut, publishers have begun dropping the prices of key releases for the platform.
Some of the games to see their prices slashed in just the last few days include 2D Boy's World of Goo which previously retailed at $4.99, but now sits at $3.99 - and Gameloft's Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front HD, which now costs 99c, down from its previous price of $4.99.

Gameloft has also cut the price of UNO HD to 99c, down from $4.99, while Tower Studios Speedball 2: Evolution has dropped from $3.99 to 99c.
In total, stats lifted from App Shopper suggest 17 games in the last three days alone have had their prices dropped including EA's Reckless Racing HD and Dead Space.
Of course, while the idea of dropping prices to sap up new customers is entirely logical, when publishers do it en masse, you have to wonder just who wins out.
Indeed, newcomers to the platform could well assume iPad app prices are always this low, resulting in sales taking a hit when they inevitably rise back to their 'normal' price point.
iPad 2 launches in the US on March 11, before making the leap to Europe on March 25.
