EA Mobile has launched a Facebook fan page, bolstering its social media activities.

It's early days - the page has 41 fans so far - but the publisher is certainly being active, starting a thread about SimCity tips, posting shots of upcoming iPhone game Need For Speed: Undercover, and also promoting Facebook game Scrabble.

There are also videos, notes about game updates, and even some photos taken of life in the publisher's LA office. The fan page will sit alongside EA Mobile's other social media efforts, including its official Twitter feed.

EA is quickly catching up with rival Gameloft, whose own Facebook fan page has 54 fans but not much activity so far. Glu Mobile doesn't seem to have an official fan page on the social network, but something called 'Union latinoamericana de Gamers ! G.L.U' has attracted 340 fans so far.

However, it remains to be seen whether publisher-focused fan pages are the best way forward, rather than pages based on individual games.

For example, the fan page for I-play's Bubble Town (admittedly a Facebook game as well as mobile) has racked up more than 10,000 fans so far.

Social media is becoming an increasingly important way to promote mobile and iPhone games, as well as getting direct feedback from players.
