Given the size of the market, news that EA Mobile has signed a deal with Indian publisher Nazara to bring its back catalog of mobile games to the region could be lucrative for both parties.

The partnership grants Nazara which boasts a subscriber base of more than 100 million the exclusive rights to distribute EA titles across multiple marketplaces and retail channels in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

In total, Nazara estimates EA's titles will now have access to a potential userbase of 600 million mobile phone consumers.

Casual concern

"Nazara has seen rapid growth in its market share in the Indian mobile gaming space over the last two years, and our relationship with EA Mobile underlines the credibility we have built in this sector," says CEO Nitish Mittersain.

"We see huge potential to grow the overall mobile gaming business while providing maximum value to the end consumers.

"Also, with the advent of 3G in a bigger way later this year, we feel that the EA Mobile catalog of games will put mobile gaming at the forefront of 3G content consumption allowing carriers and local OEMs to differentiate their proposition for these new services."

Nazara currently has approximately 40 percent market share in mobile gaming in India and serves over 200,000 free and paid game downloads per day.
