A year ago, we thought the social mobile network scene was a done deal.

In the west, we had Facebook, Twitter - maybe a bit of WhatsApp, iMessage and BBM.

In Japan, there was GREE and Mobage: core mobile gaming platforms who were spending tens of millions to expand outside of Japan.

Fastforward to 2013, and we're just confused.

In Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Spain LINE is now the big deal, and DeNA is counter-launching its COMM network.

While in Korea it's all KakaoTalk.

Even going beyond pure messaging, Facebook has Instagram, and Twitter has Vine.

Hum it and we'll sing along

Still, even within such a fragmented market what's EA doing launching a music and photo-based social app?

Called Vue and operating under the Twitter hashtag #MusicAndMemories, it's currently available for iOS in Canada and Australia, so presumably in some sort of beta.

It piggybacks the likes of Facebook, Google Maps, Spotify and Rdio in terms of how it aggregates your music and photos, but there's no mention of games - yet.

We're guessing this is either a wild experiment, a specific promotion for a new game, or something EA will eventually be looking to integrate into its Origin distribution and social gaming platform.

Hopefully we'll find out more as it rolls the global launch.
