CEEGS 2026, the annual Central and Eastern European Game Studies Conference, brings scholars, researchers and industry professionals together in Warsaw for a deep exploration of digital, analog and hybrid games. As the flagship event of the DiGRA Central and Eastern Europe chapter, the conference focuses on the cultural, social and theoretical dimensions of games, offering an inclusive platform for interdisciplinary dialogue. With a decade‑long presence in the field, CEEGS has become a key meeting point for academics from Europe, North America and Asia, fostering international collaboration and advancing game‑studies research.
The 2026 theme, Digital Earths | Material Realities: Sustainability of/in Video Games, invites participants to examine how games represent ecological systems, model environmental issues and reflect the material footprint of the gaming industry. From ecocriticism and solarpunk narratives to hardware lifecycles, cloud‑gaming carbon footprints and resource‑management mechanics, the conference encourages critical engagement with the environmental implications of play and production. Hosted in Warsaw and supported by the University of Warsaw in collaboration with the STRATEGIES project, CEEGS 2026 offers a rich program of talks, panels and research presentations for scholars across game studies, media ecology, environmental humanities and design.
