Ex-King CEO Riccardo Zacconi joins Layer AI board

• Zacconi has invested in multiple ventures since leaving King, including Layer.
• Layer AI raised $6.5m to develop generative AI tools for 2D, 3D, video, and audio asset creation.
• Co-founders Volkan Gurel and Burcu Ozcengiz bring experience from MIT and Unity.
• Zacconi’s track record in scaling game businesses adds weight to Layer’s mission.

Former King CEO and founder Riccardo Zacconi has joined Layer AI as a member of the Board of Directors. 

Mobidictum learned that since leaving King, Zacconi has invested in multiple ventures, including Cypher Games, Laton Ventures, Metica, Project Europe, Studio555, and Layer.

Backed by a $6.5 million seed round led by Arcadia and Zacconi, Layer is building a generative AI platform to help game studios create 2D, 3D, video, and audio assets. 

Layer AI’s team is composed of experts from AI, games and art production fields, with its co-founders Volkan Gurel and Burcu Ozcengiz being veterans of MIT and Unity, respectively.

New solutions 

Zacconi’s expertise in scaling game businesses and monetisation lends strong credibility to Layer’s goal of redefining content creation in game development.

“Layer is the first solution I have seen to provide developers with the simplest way to bring AI into their production pipelines," said Zacconi. 

“I am impressed with the team Burcu and Volkan have built, as well as Layer’s technology and deployment speed. I am excited to join this talented team’s journey alongside fellow investors and mobile games veterans."

Back in 2023, Layer AI raised $1.8m in seed funding to enhance its 2D image generation capabilities, before expanding into 3D. 

Now, more than 200 studios have integrated Layer AI’s tools including Zynga, Tripledot, SciPlay, Huuuge Games and Machine Zone.
