Has Facebook finally found a way of adequately monetising its mobile apps?

And, more importantly, has it served up a vital new discovery channel for App Store developers?

Facebook advertising specialist AdParlor claims the social network's mobile app is now driving large numbers of consumers towards the App Store, with the instill ads the spots Facebook filters into the app's news feed serving as a vital new discovery tool.

AdParlor's stats come from a four week campaign promoting an unnamed RPG for iOS, with the company claiming said release enjoyed a click-through rate of 0.5 percent.

In all, the Facebook ad delivered 10 million mobile impressions and drove "thousands" of installs on iOS over the four week period.

"As Facebook mobile app install ads evolve, we've seen very encouraging numbers across the board," said AdParlor CEO Hussein Fazal

"We believe budgets will continue to shift towards mobile, and expect Facebook mobile app install ads to be a key component of the marketing mix for all mobile application developers."

The news, of course, is important for Facebook, which has previously been criticised for failing to take advantage of its growing mobile userbase.

For developers, however, Facebook Mobile may find itself playing the role of an important discovery tool for those struggling to gain attention on the App Store itself.
