Facebook tests game-related posts on its mobile news feed to drive user acquisition

Facebook is looking to utilise its mobile news feed in order to push the social network as an acquisition channel for games virality.
As detailed by product manager Namita Gupta on the Facebook developers blog, testing is now underway with what it labels 'aggregated game-related stories' appearing in the Facebook mobile news feed with the aim of driving traffic to games.

"Gamers and non-gamers alike will see stories for the games their friends are playing the most," wrote Gupta.
"As we gather user and developer feedback from this test, we'll continue to iterate on the feature as we focus on making [the] feed a strong acquisition channel for developers."

Part of wider changes to games on Facebook, new categories have been added to the platform including Casino, Family, Sports, Strategy and Word. RPGs have been placed under the Adventure category, while virtual world-based games are now listed under Simulation games.
There's also a combined Games and Apps dashboard.
