Adobe welcomes Apple's Flash U-turn as great news for developers

Like a lover's tiff, the harsh words between Apple and Adobe might not have been forgotten, but they have been forgiven, at least for the present.

The news that Apple is allowing developers to use thirdparty tools as long as their apps don't download code was welcomed by Adobe.

Hip hip hooray

In a statement it said, it would restart work on refining its Packager for iPhone tool; part of Flash Professional CS5.

"This is great news for developers and we're hearing from our developer community that Packager apps are already being approved for the App Store.

"We do want to point out that Apple's restriction on Flash content running in the browser on iOS devices remains in place," it added.

What will be interesting to see however is whether Apple's formal announcement of its App Store Review Guidelines, with stern worlds over the output of amateur developers, will see a tightening up over the approval of apps developed using Packager for iPhone.

Adobe shares peaked 12 percent on the day, although they remain down around 20 percent from the start of the dispute.
