Foursquare tops 2 billion check ins

Foursquare has clocked more than 2 billion check-ins from its now 20 million strong userbase, the company has revealed.
The location-based tool's stats have been released to celebrate the firm's third annual 4sqDay, with those checking in picking up both an exclusive badge and a message detailing the app's performance.

"In 2010, Foursquare fans declared April 16 4sqDay (4/4^2 nerds after our own heart!)," details the message.
"Two years and two billion check-ins later, youre still why we get out of bed each day. Thanks to all 20 million of you for making us part of your lives. Happy 4sqDay!"
New York City-based company was valued at $600 million in June 2011 when the service had surpassed 10 million users and landed $50 million in funding.
Since then the location-based service has further accelerated, reaching 1 billion check-ins in September 2011 - a figure it has now doubled in just over six months.
