Game of Thrones: Legends celebrates one year since global launch tomorrow, July 25th, after generating $23.6 million in player spending between Google Play and the App Store.

According to AppMagic estimates, the match-3 title made its first $1m in 14 days and saw a spending peak last September. It generated $2.9m during that month and hit $126,000 in daily revenue on September 21st, still the game’s best performance over its first year as a whole.

Zynga confirmed that over the year, House Leaders have completed more than 161m raids against one another and more than 1.3m dragons have been slain in-game through Alliance Legendary Assaults. Daenerys Targaryen has commanded her dragon Drogon to "Dracarys" more than 289m times.

Ned Stark, the most-used Champion, has died a total of 110m times in-game, meanwhile Jon Snow and Beric Dondarrion have been resurrected more than 16m times.

Winners of Westeros

Game of Thrones: Legends launched globally on July 25th, 2024 with a range of characters from the Game of Thrones series and its spinoff House of the Dragon.

At the time, Jon Snow actor Kit Harrington rallied the troops via Legends’ launch trailer in a move to reach fans of the show. He demonstrated the game’s match-3 mechanics and RPG features, in what was one of many mobile ads to feature famous actors last year.

Now, Legends is celebrating its first anniversary with all players set to receive Legendary Champion shards for the King in the North version of Jon Snow, as well as gold, summoning tokens and more.

After earning $326,000 in soft launch, Legends has made over $23.3m in its first year globally. That’s just 53% of the year-one player spending Zynga’s 2019 Game of Thrones game achieved, with $44m in Game of Thrones: Slots Casino.

Legends also achieved just 19% of the year-one revenue made by Warner Bros’ Game of Thrones: Conquest, which launched while the original show was still airing in 2017. Conquest generated $119.9m in its first year.

Even so, seemingly flagging enthusiasm for the franchise hasn’t dissuaded developers from working with the IP. Netmarble launched Game of Thrones: Kingsroad this May as another RPG adaptation, meanwhile Legends has experimented with different types of gameplay like a global treasure hunt with a Google Maps-powered twist.

"Game of Thrones: Legends gives our players an immersive experience, and as we celebrate our first anniversary, we love seeing the incredible houses that are being built and the ongoing engagement from our community," Zynga EVP of mobile games Yaron Leyvand.

"Our team strives to match the enthusiasm and dedication of our players as we work to enhance the gaming experience, and we can’t wait to share what is next up for the Legends fans."
