With a total of 4.5 million users already on its books, GameFly has unveiled a host of new social tools for its Android app, bringing it up to speed with the iPhone edition.

The new social components which hit the iOS release back in April allow members of the game rental app to connect with like-minded gamers, whatever platform they're accessing from.

Flying with friends

"We're very proud that our mobile app appeals to all gamers, not just GameFly members, giving them top quality news and information, and a very interactive social experience," said co-founder and SVP of business development and content Sean Spector.

"With an average in-app session lasting more than an hour, the new social features are a great resource for casual or avid gamers to learn about what’s hot or not, and to meet new people to game with."

The new app, which is already live on Android Market, lets users create their own profile page and browse others' profiles.

The can also find new contacts for Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and Wii, post status updates, view user activity around any game, and connect to Facebook and Twitter accounts.

GameFly has also confirmed the app will launch on the NOOK Store and Amazon Appstore in the near future.
