Gameloft sells 6 million games on iPhone

Considering that most application stores - and there are more of them every day - haven't yet clocked up downloads in the millions, the fact that Gameloft alone has put out 6 million iPhone and iPod touch games is an impressive feat.
"From the distribution model to the types of games available, the App Store has completely revolutionised the way handheld games are played, perceived and received," says Michel Guillemot, chairman and CEO of Gameloft.
His company has released 35 games onto the App Store, with 18 of them making the top 10 paid games list. Working out at an average of 171,429 downloads per game, this figure surpasses Gameloft's mobile sales and makes the iPhone its primary platform.
"Our strategy from the onset has been twofold," Guillemot continues. "First we deliver an aggressive line-up of high quality games and then we adapt in real time to consumer needs. With over 6 million paid games sold, it has proven to be quite successful."
However it's also interesting the company doesn't specifically call out any million-selling titles, which means it probably hasn't had a hit game such as the million-selling Flight Control, Flick Fishing and Pocket God.
Gameloft is also ramping up its iPhone production (presumably drafting in other resources to Apple's platform) and intends to launch 15 to 30 titles for the App Store through the end of 2009.
