Gameloft turns to social media in Dungeon Hunter 2 pricing promo

Few publishers can claim to match Gameloft's recent attempts to employ a variety of different pricing structures.
Off the back of what can only be described as a failed crack at the try-before-you-buy model two games, Starfront and Sacred Odyssey, locked behind an in-app purchase after 15 minutes of free play the firm has now turned to its consumer base for advice on its prices.
Or, rather, Gameloft has launched a new promotion - Fight the Price - that will see Dungeon Hunter 2's RRP dropped if the gaming community tweets, Facebook 'likes' or gives the game enough thumbs up on YouTube.
Fighting for your love
"Earlier last month, our community was quite vocal about which game they'd like to choose as the 14th title for the Valentines Day Sale," Gameloft says on its blog.
"We listened and had N.O.V.A. 2 go on sale for 99c. We're listening to our community again. We know plenty of fans wanted Dungeon Hunter 2 as their 14th title for the Valentine's Day Sale.
"While it wasnt ultimately selected as the final winner, we are offering the game up for a different promotion."
Until March 11, for every 2,000 clicks on the three sites, Gameloft will drop the game's price which currently sits at $6.99 by around $1. As such, Dungeon Hunter 2 could retail for just 99c on March 12 if it picks up 12,000 votes in total.
Love to hate you baby
Though it's certainly an interesting strategy, it remains to be seen whether gamers will see this as a gesture of goodwill by Gameloft, or a shameless attempt to bribe people into promoting their titles.
It won't take a genius to work out just how popular Fight the Price proves to be, of course, will the game's final price serving as indisputable evidence either way.
