Speaking to IndustryGamers, US mobile service provider AT&T's executive director of gaming Glenn Broderick has outlined the company's plans for a major investment in gaming.

"My gaming team was formed in 2007 to figure out what to do with these tens of millions of customer connections with respect to gaming," says Broderick. "Gaming was placed in the converged group with the underlying belief that there was value to be had in tethering experiences between your mobile phone, your TV, and your broadband connected PC."

It seems the company's interest in promoting game development is renewed, presumably thanks in part to the iPhone, but also because AT&T hosts both World of Warcraft and Xbox Live, making it quite experienced when it comes to digital distribution.

The 'three screen focus', as Broderick puts it, is a concept quite a few different companies have been looking at as a way to unify the gaming experience.

"The way we look at it is we have between everything almost 100 million customers, and we are evenly distributed demographically, so there will be lots of people who just want to play Bejeweled but there will be others who want to download Call of Duty. We need to accommodate them all," he says.

Although no figures have been given of the level of AT&T's investment, it's likely to be quite substantial given the company's focus on Apple's handheld platform.
